Reading Strategies by Dr. Waleed
- Skimming (2 min/passage): Read title, headings, and the first sentences of each paragraph.
- Scanning (1 min): Find keywords from questions in the text.
- Time Management: Allocate a maximum of 20 minutes per passage.
- Question Order: Questions usually follow the order of the text.
Vocabulary Building: Create a dedicated notebook for academic words. Group them by themes: education, environment, technology, and health. Review them daily.
Writing Module
2 tasks · 60 minutes
1. Introduction (1-2 sentences): Paraphrase the question.
"The line graph illustrates the changes in..."
2. Overview (2-3 sentences): Note the main trends without repeating exact figures.
"Overall, there was a significant increase in..."
3. Details Paragraph 1: Describe the first main feature with metrics.
4. Details Paragraph 2: Describe the second feature/comparison parameters.
"Dear Sir/Madam,"
"I am writing to express my concern about..."
Informal Letter Opening:
"Dear [Name],"
"Hope you're doing well! I'm writing to invite you to..."
Always include: Clear statement of purpose, supporting details, and expected action steps.
Introduction (40 words):

Body Paragraph 1 (90 words):
- Topic sentence

- Second stance with reference example
Conclusion (30 words):
- Summarize core points + restate stance
